About StringFusion

Edgar Gabriel's StringFusion® takes the audience on a musical journey which transcends time, geography and cultures. This musical ensemble combines old world music with new musical stylings and technology to create a true original sound for the 21st century. Violinist and composer Edgar Gabriel's many years of professional experience in  performance of classical, jazz,  rock, blues and fiddle music is complimented by the extreme technical precision and creativity of musicians Maurice Houston (Bass), Steve Doyle (Guitar), Kevin O'Connell (Keyboards), Inderjeet Sidhu (Drums/ Tabla), Sarah Alexander (Cello) and Michael Levin (Saxophone/ Flute /Clarinet).

The repertoire of StringFusion is a combination of original material and great works by known artists and composers. The ensemble performs works by Bach, Jean-Luc Ponty, Charlie Parker, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and Edgar Gabriel all in the same concert, with a continuity designed to hold the interest of the listener. Also, the integration of west and eastern music is essential StringFusion. Three elements create a common thread to this diverse collection: the violin, the technical level of each composition and the creation of something new and different.

The industry term for StringFusion could be called classical crossover, for it crosses the lines of classical, rock, jazz and folk. The music industry requires musical groups to fit into a single catagory in order to be commercially viable. However, Edgar believes artists cannot limit themselves. He has also experienced very positive audience reaction and encouragement from his eclectic repertoire. Quoting Edgar Gabriel, "There are only two types of music, good and bad". He goes on to say that "The public is hungry for new good music and they should decide what they would like to hear."

Edgar Gabriel's StringFusion is designed to bring people together through music by performing music of varied cultures and eras. It is also to bring the violin back to it's rightful place as an important instrument for all types of music.
